Predictions for Oil

One of the most attractive fields in investments is oil, undoubtedly.

In the past year, like many others who missed the opportunity, i could have earn twice on oil: first by doing a long position and later by shifting to a short one. But i didn't...

Today, i am more convinced that oil's price level is pretty steady. I am following from time to time others opinions and predictions to check the convenience of starting a position on oil, and i have to admit that i am very confused.

I want to share with you an article i read last week: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/oil-predictions

I tend to think short about oil for the fear that another fall in the markets may happen soon, but who knows....

If you have a tip about oil, or other assets that could be related to oil as well, just post at NeatlySaid.

Predictions for India

More than a year ago, before the big crash in the stock markets, I purchased an indian ETF. Few months later the value of this asset was cut by almost 50 percent. I was very lucky indeed since it was small money. But I am not worried at all because i believe that India is going to be a superpower a few years from now.

My feelings about that much coincide with an article i read this week in BusinessWeek:

More Positive Reviews for India Shares
http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/aug2009/gb20090810_586671.htm

I will probably buy more shares that follow the Indian index, but this is part of the deal.
With the spirit of NeatlySaid, I am doing a small research at this opportunity about what else might happen to be a good investment as indian markets do a big comeback in the future.

If you have an idea, please send a post quoting "More Positive Reviews for India Shares" from the article mentioned above (put also the link to the article), and suggest up to three tags predicting the impacts of a rally on Indian markets. That could help me and many others to make good decisions.

Investor Sentiment

NeatlySaid concept states for unveiling all indicators and factors that may affect stock markets and investments in general. Why's that so important? Because we believe that all signs appear long time before they are manifested in stock charts. Unlinke technical analysis, which is not reliable usually, pure fundamental analysis is in fact the real thing. If so, the big question is how to obtain the best results from fundamental analysis and above all, what are the sources one should rely on?

NeatlySaid believes the answer hides in the community.Did all big analysts in the past year mention a market crash before it happened? Why investment banks and big analysts predicted that oil will reach $200 a barrel a year ago?

NeatlySaid thinks the answer is quite simple: speculations and more speculations...

The solution we suggest consists in identifying first of all the main categories in investments:

1) Stocks
2) Regions
3) Sectors
4) Commodities
5) Currencies

Secondly, let you have a simple mechanism where you can post daily things you wonder about, think of, imagine, read in articles and so, and associate it with the five categories mentioned. You tell how's your statement or quotation going to influence on any of the related categories - that's your prediction. If you are just speculating, people in the community will notice that and will rank this post what it deserves...

Take the following example (http://www.neatlysaid.com/post.jsp?sayId=492):

Someone stated "El niƱo effect may cause severe agriculture damage in the south eastern parts of asia, due to both droughts and floods", and associated that with rice, which falls in the commodities category, predicting a huge impact on this commodity. This user believes that severe weather conditions will hit the rice fields in a way that it will cause a shortage worldwide resulting eventually in soaring prices of rice.

By collecting posts from all users, NeatlySaid is able to calculate a general investor sentiment for each asset that falls in one of the five categories. For example, the sentiment calculated for rise http://www.neatlysaid.com/tag.jsp?val=15&type=2.

More examples yet to come...

How to spot investment opportunities in stock markets?

Most of today's investment websites and blogs revolve heavily around stocks and other assets like commodities and currencies. Using this traditional style makes it hard to get a clear picture of the markets for various reasons:

(1) Opinions cannot be classified for further processing but for simple tagging.
(2) It is not always possible to rank opinions effectively.
(3) It cannot prevent rampers from causing harm.

NeatlySaid was founded for the purpose of introducing to the investors community an alternative to the way things happen today - a tricky way to precede stock markets. The principle consists in encouraging people to share stories or whatever is on their mind, and let them predict how it might influence stock markets.

This approach is totaly different from what people are traditionaly familiar with, but may happen to be more effective in following evolving trends and spotting risks.
